Are You Being Dumped?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Tonja Weimer Does the one you want act like they don’t want you? Is it real or are you imagining it? When people tell me about the behavior patterns of their partner, and then ask if I think they are trying to leave, I am amazed at the signs they refuse to see. Here are seven signs that your love interest may be dumping you: * Shorter phone calls. Does your love want to end your phone calls sooner than usual? Is it happening more and more? When someone knows they want to end a relationship but haven’t yet done it, they will not stay on the phone. * Distance. Does he or she go away to visit other people or places more than they used to? Or have they “gone away” by not listening to you as much as they once did? When someone no longer asks questions and puts distance between you…emotional and physical…this indicates they want to leave. * No future talk. If he or she no longer wants to make plans for the future, including what you might be doing for the weekend, they are not planning a “future” with you in mind. * Needing space. When someone says, “I need my space,” these are more than just words. * Not knowing where they are. If you are often wondering where your love interest is and how they are spending their time, and you have to ask them, they obviously are avoiding you. * The direction of their toes. Body language speaks louder than words. If your love is talking to you but not facing you; if their toes and heart are pointing in another direction other than towards you, pay attention. * Non-communicative. If your partner used to share and now they don’t; if they used to be interested in your day and now they don’t call you to find out how you are or how it went; and if their answers are so brief, you can’t feel a part of their life, they want out. If the above seven signs exist in your relationship, it is time to have the hard conversation with your love. Ask them what they want in your relationship. If they turn that question into, “Well, what do you want?” they are waiting for you to do the breaking up. Tell them it doesn’t work for you anymore. But most of all, remind yourself that you deserve a real relationship, not an illusion. And then, get some help to discover all the good and great things about you that you might have forgotten or may have never known. You aren’t being dumped. You are being given a wakeup call that there is something more for you out there. Cholesterol Reducing Medication

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kristi_Patrice_Carter] Kristi Patrice Carter If you suffer from high blood cholesterol levels, your doctor will most likely advise that you make some changes to bring it down. There are many ways to reduce your cholesterol but perhaps the fastest way is to use cholesterol reducing medications. For most people, getting cholesterol levels down is as simple as just adjusting the diet and starting an exercise program, but for some, those simple changes do not make a difference. For those that diet and exercise do not work for, the other option is medication. There are different types of medication that can help to reduce your levels of cholesterol. The medications are basically broken into two different types. Some medications will reduce the amount of cholesterol that the liver makes. Some medications will reduce the amount of the dietary cholesterol that is absorbed from food. Below is a list of some possible medications that you may want to look into. Niacin. This is a B vitamin that is found in many foods and also in multi-vitamins. High doses that are available by prescription can lower the bad cholesterol and raise the good cholesterol. There are some minor side effects that you may or may not experience such as tingling or flushing of the skin as well as itching and possibly a headache. Sequestrants of Bile-acid. These types of medications will help to cut down on the production of cholesterol in the liver. The most common side effects that you may experience may include some stomach irritations or digestive problems such as an upset stomach, constipation or gas. Statins (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors) is one of the newest medications that are out on the market to lower cholesterol. They are very effective as they do their work by interrupting the chemical pathway in its final step when it creates cholesterol in the liver. Zetia is the newest drug to recently be released that will lower your cholesterol levels. This medication works by decreasing the amount of cholesterol that is absorbed in your intestines after you eat, where as the statins that are generally used, reduce cholesterol by limiting the production of it in the liver. No matter which cholesterol-reducing medication you use, make sure that you have regular blood tests to stay on top of the medication. You want to be sure that it is working and not causing you unwanted side effects. Also be sure to keep up a good diet and exercise program as these simple steps will help keep your cholesterol levels down naturally. If you suffer with high cholesterol, be sure to talk with your doctor to find the right treatment regimen for you. Sometimes, diet and exercise is not enough to get your cholesterol under control and the use of cholesterol reducing medication may be prescribed by your doctor. What may work for one person may not be good for another, so you want to be sure that you know your personal condition and treat it accordingly. You doctor will be happy to go over your options for medications and help you find the right one. Do you suffer from high cholesterol? Searching for the Perfect Car Loan

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Nicole_Soltau]Nicole Soltau Credit Unions have long been known as the place to go when you are in the market for a new or used car. Todays credit union pairs its long history of car financing with technological and bargaining tools that help consumers every step of the way. Of course, programs vary among credit union, but generally your credit union makes the old get out the paper and go through the ads routine a thing of the past. If you are in the market for a new or used car try your credit unions car locator service. Simply call your representative and give information about the car of your dreams (Kiplingers Buyers Guide to New Cars & Trucks provides extensive information and articles, and can help narrow your choices). Include such preferences as color, make, model, seat types (i.e. leather, cloth, vinyl), and let your credit union do the rest. Backed by the power of reputation and volume, your credit union negotiates the best prices with local dealers and sometimes even surrounding states. With a pre-approved car loan your credit union may even be able to arrange for delivery of your car to their location where you can close the deal and drive home. This convenient service eliminates the hassle, confusion and stress of approaching a local car dealer directly. If you would like a more hands on approach, many credit unions also offer an onsite database program, which allows you to conduct your own search. An added bonus, the database even has information about the price paid by the dealer for the car you are considering. This can be important information for negotiating the best price. Stop in to check out the database or other information sources such as bulletin board listings from other members and notebooks compiled by staff. For additional options, combine credit union services with the Internet. Check out sites such as Edmunds.com and Carprices.com to learn about retail prices or Autobytel.com and CarsDirect.com for haggle-free pricing and buying. No matter which options you choose your credit union can help you find the best deal at the best value. Inspecting a Car Dont depend on your eyes to tell you if the car of your dreams has experienced a nightmare or two. Without question, it is a sellers job to sell cars. Toward that end, dealers present cars to buyers in the best possible light. With enough elbow grease, some duds can be cleaned up to look nearly new. Dont be fooled. Your job as the buyer is to arm yourself with enough information to avoid buying a shiny new lemon. Before you decide on a car inspect it carefully to make sure the book is a good as its cover. Begin with the Internet. Using a service such as Carfax.com or Autocheck.com you can put together a history of the car in question. These services provide information about accurate odometer readings, titles, repaint jobs, accidents and so forth. You will need the Vehicle Identification Number (usually located in the windshield on the drivers side) to conduct your search. Dont limit your inspection to used or previously owned vehicles. New cars, too, should get a close look. For example: What information is available about the types of problems and/or repair issues that you can expect for this vehicle. Consider a mechanic. It wont hurt to have a mechanic give the car a once over. In fact, it can be a great help. Remember, buying a car is not like buying a blouse you cant take it back within 7 or 10 days for a full refund. Inspection should include major systems such as air conditioning, electrical, engine and brakes as well as smaller issues such as speaker sound and window seals. While it is true that these smaller issues wont necessarily impact performance, it is almost certain that they will impact satisfaction. Talk with others who own a car in the same make/model family. What have their experiences with the car been like? Would they buy again or recommend the same car? Finally, dont be afraid to really look at the car objectively. Yes, it can be disappointing after you have done the research and planning to find just the right car but ignoring any problems you find will not ease your pain. You may be able to overlook some problems, but at some point you must draw the line. To avoid this scenario have a back up plan, just in case. If you found the car on one lot, chances are you can find the same car in better shape on another. Free LG Ringtones

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Thomas_Morva]Thomas Morva LG is one of the most popular mobile handset companies in the market today. They have their own specialty and are the leading manufacturers of GSM and CDMA mobile handsets. Today, various polyphonic ringtones are available for all the models of LG. But every model has some limitation in terms of the ringtones that can be installed on it. For example the 7020, 4020, L1100, L1150, W300 can only support polyphonic ringtones. Whereas, most of the new LG handsets can support polyphonic, monophonic ring tones, real tones, flixtones, sound FX ring tones and voice ringers, as well. These include the LG5350, C1300i, CG series, CU series, MM, PM, U series and the LG VI series. Doing a compatibility check for your specific model is very important before you download LG ringtones. But certain LG models like the LG MM 535, PM 225/325 and U 8100 do support all types of ringtones except the monophonic ones. Most of the free ringtones available online are MP3 format. Before installing them or downloading them on you LG phone you may need to check for the compatibility. With lots of newer LG models coming to the market have larger LCD screens, video ringtone downloading has also increased. Many users like to use their own video recordings as their ringtone. Many young users play a lot of games on their mobiles and hence use the themes from these games as ringtones as well. Here the users need to know whether their LG mobile has the games application compatibility or not. With the growing demand for free ringtones, all the new models of LG mobile phones are providing many new features and options for their users. Moreover, the LG Web site provides the users with many innovative and cool ringtones for all the LG mobile phones. Calorie Estimation - Big Meals Lead to Big Mistakes

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Pat Salber How good are we at estimating the number of calories in the foods we eat? It turns out, if the meal is small, we are pretty good. But if the meal is large, we grossly underestimate the number of calories it contains. Brian Wansink and Pierre Chandon, PhDs from New York and France respectively, designed two studies to look at how accurately people estimate the number of calories in fast food meals. They were also interested in whether overweight individuals differed from normal weight individuals in their ability to estimate calories in meals. The results are reported in an article, Meal Size, Not Body Size, Explains Errors in Estimating the Calorie Content of Meals, that appears in the September 2006 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine. In Study 1, the researchers sent trained interviewers to local fast-food restaurants. They asked 150 men and women who had just finished eating to estimate the number of calories in their meals and to provide their heights and weights. 105 people agreed to participate. A little more than half of the participants (59%) were normal weight (BMI less than 25). The rest were overweight. Men and womens estimates of meal calories were similar as were estimates of normal and overweight individuals. What was significantly different was the calorie underestimation of different size meals. People underestimated small meals by an average of about 3%. However, they underestimated big meals by 38%. In the second Study, the researchers asked 40 undergraduate students to estimate the number of calories in 15 different meals purchased from a local fast food restaurant. Each meal consisted of three items (chicken nuggets, French fries, and a regular cola drink). What differed was the portion size of each item. The smallest meal consisted of 3 nuggets, a small (1.45 oz) order of fries and a 10 oz cola. The largest meal was 12 nuggets, 5.8 oz of fries, and a 40 oz cola. The rest of the meals were different combinations of the different portion sizes of the same items. The meals ranged from 445 calories to a whopping 1780 calories. Similar to Study 1, they found that the undergrads were very good at estimating calories of the small meals, but they underestimated the 7 largest meals by a mean of 23%. Again, there was no difference between normal and overweight people in their ability to estimate calories. Now here is the punch line: Although normal and overweight individuals were similar in their ability to estimate the number of calories in food, the overweight individuals in Study 1, who had eaten a fast food meal, ate larger meals. Because everyone significantly underestimates the number of calories in large meals, these overweight people actually ate many more calories than they thought they had. An analysis of the data in these two studies showed a meal that increased in calories by 100%, was only thought, by the participants, to have increased by 50%. Whew, thats a big mistake that can really impact the bottom line aka the waistline. The authors had several suggestions on ways to improve an individuals ability to estimate calories. One was to have fast food restaurants clearly post calorie content on the meal servings themselves, as opposed to just being available somewhere in the restaurant or on the companys website. Another was to provide people with an idea of what a portion-size should be (e.g., 3 chicken nuggets or an amount of fries equal to the size of your fist). An interesting option they propose takes advantage of what they learned from the data in this study. Since people can accurately estimate the calories in small amounts of food, they should estimate the amount of calories in a large meal by estimating the calories in each item (chicken nuggets, fries, cola) and then adding them up to get the total. Whether this works or not, of course, will have to be tested. But if it does, it will be one more tool that we can use to help us ensure that our daily calorie intake stays in a range that allows us to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Preventing Adverse Drug Reactions

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Larry_Smith] Larry Smith In part 3 of the Healthy Aging Presentation, we are going to examine the very common but under-reported phenomenon of Adverse Drug Reactions. In North America: There are over 2 million serious adverse drug reactions each year Over 100,000 deaths occur yearly due to adverse drug reactions According to the Journal of the American Medical association (JAMA); most serious (often fatal) adverse drug events are preventable. To illustrate the problem of adverse drug reactions, we are going to use a case study of a patient named Jenny. Jennys is a single 48 year old, working mother with 2 teen age boys. Jenny experienced a health crisis from an adverse drug reaction compounded by self medication. Jenny presented to her physician with the following symptoms: Anxiety Headaches Fatigue Low back pain The medical examination findings revealed: Increased Total Cholesterol She was 40 pounds overweight An increase in blood pressure (measured at 150/100) Extreme Tenderness of her low back and neck muscles Therefore, Jenny was diagnosed with: Hypercholesterolemia Hypertension Tension headaches Anxiety She was prescribed the following medications to treat her symptoms: Lipitor (to decrease cholesterol) Ativan (to decrease anxiety) Naproxen (an anti-inflammatory) to relieve symptoms of her back pain and headaches Each and every medication has common side effects. The common side effects of Lipitor include: 1. Headaches 2. Constipation/diarrhea 3. Stomach pain 4. Muscle and Joint Pain 5. Rash 6. Muscle weakness and tenderness After taking the medication exactly as prescribed for 2 weeks, Jenny experienced: 1. Increased intensity of headaches 2. Increased fatigue which prevented her from performing her regular job duties. 3. Severe Abdominal pain * These are all signs of an ADVERSE DRUG REACTION Instead of reporting the symptoms to her doctor, Jenny decided to self medicate by taking Tylenol #3 and Percocet. Both these medications are very potent analgesics. It is no surprise that Jenny ended up in the hospital with a diagnosis of: 1. Adverse Drug Reaction 2. Adverse Drug Interaction from self medication After being treated at the hospital, Jenny decided to visit her local chiropractor. She explained her problems to the chiropractor and asked him if there was anything that he could do. After taking a thorough history and performing a comprehensive physical examination, the chiropractor told Jenny that he agreed with the medical diagnosis. Jenny was somewhat perplexed and asked the chiropractor 2 questions: 1. Why do I have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and ache all over? 2. Why cant I lose weight Doc? The chiropractor said that all her signs and symptoms pointed to one underlying cause. His diagnosis was that she suffered from Couch Potato Syndrome! Her symptoms were mainly due to inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle. She was looking for a quick fix with pills and potions. After several minutes of a heated discussion, the chiropractor proposed the following treatment program. 1. Walk 30 minutes daily with Nordic walking poles 2. Yoga classes 3. Regular Chiropractic care 4. Take all old medications to her local pharmacy in a brown bag for proper disposal. 5. In future, report all side effects of medication to the physician. Jenny agreed that the treatment plan made sense, but quickly retorted that she didnt have time to exercise. The doctor replied, What fits your busy schedule better? Exercising 1 hour a day or being dead 24 hours a day? Jenny finally agreed to the treatment program and has never looked back since. After 2 months of following her treatment plan Jenny has: 1. Lost 15 pounds 2. Takes only 1 medication 3. Reduced frequency and intensity of her headaches 4. Has signed up for her first ever 5 kilometer fun run! Remember the facts: In North America there are over 2 million serious adverse drug reactions each year from prescriptions taken as prescribed Over 100,000 deaths occur yearly due to adverse drug reactions Adverse drug reactions are the 4th leading cause of death ahead of AIDS, pneumonia, accidents and automobile deaths Medications are necessary, may be life saving and may improve the quality of your life, but why not try safer conservative measures first? When was the last time your doctor wrote you a prescription for exercise? Todays action steps are: 1. Put all old prescriptions in a brown paper bag and bring to your local pharmacy for proper disposal. 2. Make an Appointment for a Chiropractic Check up today. 3. Take a walk around the block with your family and friends. Instead of playing cards or drinking coffee, meet at the park every week to exercise! Hand Quilting - Only For The Passionate Ones

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Clive Jenkins The history of hand quilting was written by all women who have dedicated their time, passion and skills in creating true masterpieces from simple pieces of fabric and thread. Those women were building something marvelous and timeless every time they stitched one piece of textile to another, one memory along all the others. This is the true meaning of hand quilting: the more work you put in it, the more valuable your quilt will be. If we make a short trip back in time, in the 18th or 19th century, we will find out how different the women of those times were living. Practically, a woman had to know how to make herself lots of necessary things for daily house activities, such as clothes, bed linens, cooked food, quilts and even soap. They did not have the facilities that modern women have today, like linen stores, restaurants and supermarkets. The modern technology made possible for today’s women to spare their already busy schedule for things like hand quilting. Hand quilting was a tradition in the 18th and 19th century, not just a hobby as many of you might think. All mothers were teaching their daughters the secrets and the complicated techniques of hand quilting. Generation after generation, this passion was transmitted and taught, keeping it alive and improving with time. The material proof of hand quilting were the quilts, every one unique in its own way, and truly representing the spirit of one’s family for generations, passed from grandmothers to mothers, and from mothers to daughters, in a strong and continuous line of dedicated women. Quilts represented a great way to imprint and keep alive the ancient traditions, the family’s spiritual heritage. Every quilt had a story; it was not made just to keep warm in cold winter nights. The hard work of hand quilting had a higher purpose: to enchant the eye with exquisite patterns, to be functional for the entire family and to say the story to the following generations. If you decide though to follow the original technique of hand quilting instead of using the modern technology, you will need a lot of practice. You will see that in time, your technique will gradually improve and you can obtain a unique hand made quilt. Usually, the quilts are made from cotton, but you can use any kind of fabric you have or any combinations. Cotton is recommended because it does not stretch and can be easily ironed. After you decide what kind of textures you will use, you must prepare them. Wash them in luke warm water with a light detergent to remove the color excess and to avoid the shrinking. If the colors bleed, use for the quilt only fabrics with similar colors. You can combine successfully the colors in a quilt if you use fabrics with different nuances, dark colors and accents of another color used in the quilt. The quilt is like a sandwich formed by three lairs: the front lair, the middle lair and the back lair. The front lair is the decorative one and it is realized from pieces of fabric sawed in an artistic and creative manner in blocks, than the blocks are assembled together. The middle lair gives the warmth and the thickness of the quilt and can be made from cotton, polyester or wool. The backside of the quilt is usually made from a single textile piece or it can be assembled from many decorative blocks, such as the front. Hand quilting requires some additional tools: a pair of scissors, number 8 or 9 needles, thimble and dark colored thread that can help you see the stitches better. (Cotton or poly-covered cotton). When you begin to work, find a comfortable place to sit, with a good light, because you will need plenty of it if you want to do the stitches right. You can practice your stitches slower in the beginning and increase the speed when you will feel surer of your hand. If you enjoy hand quilting, you will find it easy and fascinating and you will have the satisfaction of something you have done yourself, even if it doesn’t come perfect from the first time. Get A Facial Sauna For A Fabulous Face

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By Ron King Among the many benefits of sauna and steam baths are the skin toning properties. The result is skin that is soft, supple and glowing; in short, beautiful. Regular sauna and steam bath users have a pleasing, healthy glow that enhances their attractiveness. Mini-saunas are designed to apply steam directly to the face. They offer the same deep-cleaning action as a full sauna or steam bath does, only as a quick facial fix-up. While the best skin toning benefits come from a full-body sauna, a facial sauna system can produce results almost as good. Sauna and steam are healthy for the skin because of the deep-cleaning action caused by heavy perspiration. All the accumulated dirt can easily wash out when the pores are opened wide. How They Work A facial sauna has an electric heating element at the bottom of the unit that heats water held in a small reservoir. Once the water reaches the boiling point, steam begins to rise. A small reservoir ensures that steam is produced quickly. An ergonomically designed mask is positioned over the reservoir, funneling the steam directly to your face. To control the amount of steam, just move your face back from the mask. To get maximum deep cleaning action, bring your face into direct contact with the mask. This position should be held briefly. Every 10 seconds, raise your head to allow cooler air to mix with the steam. Repeat the cycle as often as you wish. Facial saunas are also useful for unclogging stuffed sinuses. Anything from a simple cold to more serious conditions such as bronchitis, sinusitis, asthma, and hay fever may be improved by using a facial sauna as an inhaler or vaporizer. Some facial saunas have a detachable inhaler. Rather than fitting over the entire face, it fits directly over the nose and mouth. Simply breathe in the steam to relieve sinus pain almost immediately. Operating Tips Most facial saunas have a very small reservoir, so the water can heat up fast. The downside is that the water evaporates quickly. So, if you wish to use the sauna for an extended session, you should keep a tall glass of water by your side. This way you can quickly refill the reservoir when it goes dry. Steam is great for deep cleaning the skin, but for an additional beauty treatment you can add special cleaners such as tea tree oil to the water. Just a few drops of this oil will give your skin an even brighter glow and leave it feeling fresh and supple. Facial saunas are affordable for almost any budget, usually costing less than $60. So now everyone can enjoy the deep-cleaning action of a facial sauna and have ‘glowing’ skin. Ron King is a full-time researcher, writer, and web developer. Do Low Carbohydrate Diets Works For Everyone

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Joshua Poyoh Unless you are a hermit and living without the news, you must have heard of low carb diets like Atkins diet or South Beach dieting plans. The underlying principle is that it is the excess carbohydrates and not the fats that cause weight gain. Low carbohydrate diets advocates that we restrict the carbohydrate intake to as little as 20 grams a day or less if better depending on the program. However the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine of the academies of Science recommended that the daily allowance of carbohydrates for young adults should not fall below the minimum of 100 grams. As early as 2004, both the Atkins Nutritionals and Dr. Barry Sears, creator of “The Zone”, stated that they do not recommended their products for these people and only market their dieting programs to older adults only. Dr. Arthur Agatston, the author of the South Beach Diet does recommend his plan for young adults, but they have to omit the first phase of his two weeks introductory program. Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades, creator of Protein Power, says that their programs can be used on these young people so long as they start in phase two. SugarBusters, which is less restrictive in terms of carbohydrate allowances, has a separate plan for these young people. The carbohydrates that you consume in food are the main source for cellular energy and central nervous systems functioning. Carbohydrates convert to glucose and the pranceas pumps out insulin that unlocks cells and allows the glucose energy inside. Low carb advocates says that consuming too much carbohydrate overload this finely balanced system and triggers the release of too much insulin which eventually will be stored as fats. Too much circulating insulin is also associated with insulin resistance and raises heart diseases risk. Many low carbohydrate diets replace sugar and starches with protein rich food such as red meat and eggs. Critics of carbohydrate reduction say that the high levels of artery clogging fats and cholesterols from such foods are a one way ticket to heart diseases. However some studies have found that after six to twelve months, many people on a reduced carbohydrate diet have actually improved their blood cholesterol level. But there are no studies longer than a year that measure the impact of these low carbohydrate and high protein diets on the cardiovascular system. Until now, we still do not have enough evidence and the jury is still out.
